I saw a dvd on Daniel’s vision of seventy sevens which I found very interesting.

Daniel 9:24 – Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophesy and to anoint the most holy.

This could be a referral to the Feast of Weeks. The Feasts of the Lord have significant meanings around the Messiah. The ‘seven’ could refer to a week consisting of 7 days. An implication here is that the weeks should be counted. The Feast of Weeks is the counting off of 7 weeks from the Day of First fruits at Passover. The Feast of Weeks is also called Shavuot (remember the Law given to Moses at Mount Sinai) or Pentecost (remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit). The implication is that 70 Shavuots or Pentecosts must be counted. The Feast of Weeks is also regarded as the Day of Proclamation.

Daniel 9:25 – Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuilt Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens’ and sixty-two sevens. It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.

In 1947 the United Nations issued a decree and a few months later Israel became a state – this just before the Feast of Weeks. Counting from 1947 to 2010 gets us to 62 Feasts of Weeks. In this verse ‘streets’ can also be translated as ‘plaza’ and ‘trench’ as ‘moat’. In all of Jerusalem’s history there had never been a plaza or a moat. Now, in our modern day there is a area called the Plaza. There is also today a trench with excavations at the Western Wall which is called the Moat. All this have been built during ‘times of trouble’ as the state of Israel does not have peace. This part of the prophecy came true during the last 10 or so years.

If Daniel is not talking in chronological order about the events, than the seven ‘sevens’ could imply the final 7 years after the 62 Feasts of Weeks. The next verse talks abut war that will come like a flood and continue to the end. When we read what is happening in the Middle East, we know that war can easily come like a flood. There is military growth at present. America has sent some warships earlier this year. Israel is preparing for war. They will not go down without a very serious fight. I wonder how many surrounding countries know that Israel’s government does Bible study and takes the Bible seriously. Al Israeli citizens know where the bomb shelters are. They go to work and school and shops knowing exactly where the closest bomb shelters on the route are. If war breaks out, we can expect to see a very different war to any other war in the past. Nuclear missiles will be playing a huge role. Have you ever noticed how extremely tiny Israel is in the middle of all these hostile nations? So easy to wipe out, and yet impossible.

Joel3:16 – The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the sky will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.
