Jelly dyeing

by Inge on Aug.16, 2010, under Spinning

I spun the wool first and then dyed the skeins with jelly in the microwave. I soaked the skeins in warm soapy water for while. Then I mixed 1 tablespoon salt, half a cup vinegar and the jelly which I dissolved in a cup of hot water. I added 3 skeins of 20g each to a dish with the jelly mix and microwaved on High for 3 minutes, took the dish out, rested it for a few seconds, microwaved it again for 3 minutes. I left the dish to cool down totally and then rinsed the wool. Sequence of jellies: 1 Raspberry, 2 Strawberry, 3. Lemon, 4. Orange, 5 Pineapple,

SparJelliesdyess 150x150 Dye wool with JellyThis is fun and smells nice too!

1. Soak about 6ograms of wool spun or unspun in warm water for about an hour with a little detergent.

2. Dissolve 1 packet of jelly in 250ml of boiling water. Add a tablespoon of salt and half a cup of white vinegar.

3. Now add your wet fibre and microwave on high, in a container  with a lid half on, for 3 minutes, rest, 3 minutes. You can also cook it in the oven for 20min at 120degrees Celsius. In a pan, simmer over low heat for 10minutes.

4. Let the wool cool down in the container and rinse.
