Basic Child Sweater

Ages about 1,3,5years old

Double knit yarns

3¼ mm needles and 4mm needles

Back

  1. Cast on 67/72/77 sts with 3¼mm needles.
  2. Rib 16 rows.
  3. Increase 3 sts evenly and change to 4mm needles (70/75/80 sts).
  4. St.st for 55/62/69 rows.
  5. Decrease 5sts at beginning of next 2 rows (60/65/70 sts).
  6. St.st for 30/35/40 rows.
  7. Rib for 5 rows with 4mm needles.
  8. Cast off loosely.

Front

  1. Cast on 67/72/77 sts with 3¼mm needles.
  2. Rib 16 rows.
  3. Increase 3 sts evenly and change to 4mm needles (70/75/80 sts).
  4. Sts.st for 55/62/69 rows.
  5. Decrease 5sts at beginning of next 2 rows (60/65/70sts).
  6. Sts.st for 15/20/25 rows.
  7. Divide for neck, knit 23/25/27 sts, cast off 14/15/16 sts, knit 23/25/27 sts.
  8. Neck edge – decrease 1 st every row at neck edge 2 times (21/23/25 sts)
  9. Neck edge – decrease 1 st every second row at neck edge 5 times (16/18/20 sts)
  10. Rib for 5 rows with 4mm needles.
  11. Cast off loosely.

Sleeves

  1. Cast on 39/40/41 sts with 3¼mm needles.
  2. Rib 16 rows.
  3. Increase 4 sts evenly and change to 4mm needles (43/44/45 sts).
  4. Increase each end every 5th row till 63/68/73 sts.
  5. Rib for 5 rows with 4mm needles.
  6. Cast off loosely.
